Guys - I've been here a long dang time - so I'm asking this here because you are my favorite people. lol

I am VERY interested in this phone:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/light-phone-2-smartphone-design#/

I'm a PXL2 user, so you ask, why would I want a minimalist phone? Because NO MATTER WHAT I DO, I can't make my Pixel be JUST A PHONE. I turn on DND (it's ALWAYS on) - I turned off mobile data. I still get notifications. I can STILL log into apps (addiction is real, ya'll - I need it to NOT be available but I won't uninstall because I need it when I need it, ok? :D:D)

DOES ANYONE have a way for me to make my Pixel act like this minimalist phone? TEXTING AND PHONE CALLS ONLY. Is there an APP? I don't want to be tempted. I don't want the notifications. I don't want to uninstall apps and reinstall... I just want something I can carry and NOT BE TEMPTED.

Before you BLAST ME and tell me to get some self control - stop. Just don't. We all know how these phones have become an extension of our hands. I take pictures of EVERYTHING. I'm "on my phone" more than I'm NOT. I'd like to take a minimalist phone into a restaurant and know I can make an emergency call and text, but NOT be tempted to get on Facebook, IG and Snap -- I just need to put boundaries in place for myself. I'm being vulnerable here, so be NICE.

Thoughts??

No blasting, I want that phone too but not for that much. It would be great to get my pixel to act like it.

the DND settings still allow notifications to pile up on top. I know I can turn off notifications per each app, but then I'll forget to turn them back on (and the task would be arduous every dang day) - I turned off mobile data last night and I was NOT on Wifi. Tested it by loading facebook and IT LOADED..so did IG! What is happening here?! LOL I want it to say "SORRY YOU'RE NOT CONNECTED" and make me jump through some hoops to GET CONNECTED so I can train myself to stay off the stupid thing.

I've tried to use Automate IT to turn stuff off - and back on.. doesn't work. I need a profile app that will turn EVERYTHING OFF and I can use a simple slider widget to TURN IT ALL BACK ON....

Sigh.

I'm seriously ready to pay that for what it will be and do. It's funny - I used to have a phone just like this... 20 years ago!

Since this is the second version, the first one should be even cheaper. I might just get that one.

Why not just go on Amazon and get a basic flip phone for a third the price?

Remember, if you get rid of the Pixel and have only the Light Phone 2, you won't have apps when you need them. If you carry both of them with you, the Pixel will still get notifications, and you'll still be feeding your addiction when it hits.

So it looks as if what you need is an AI phone, but there is no such thing (and won't be for decades, at least). So you have to decide - are you going to have the Pixel with you anyway - and defeat the whole purpose of having the Light Phone 2? Or are you only going to carry the Light Phone 2 with you? In which case, you can root the Pixel (it's pretty trivial), turn off the apps you don't want bothering you or tempting you, and save the $250 you'd spend for the Light Phone 2.

But you have to choose, no one can choose for you. (Either way, I can't see the Light Phone 2 giving you any advantage.)

Use the Pixel. Turn on do not disturb with your own number as the only one allowed, turn off all notifications.

You could disable all of the apps except for the texting app and there phone app. That the only way I know of that you won't get any notifications besides text and missed call notifications.

Just curious, doesn't the Pixel have an Ultra Power Saving feature like Samsung and Sony? Basically that feature turns everything off except for a specified number of apps. If I recall correctly, Sony even goes as far as to grayscale the screen.

My thoughts is that it is not going to happen. The Pixel 2 isn't designed to work like that. Like someone said, why not buy a cheap flip phone on Amazon and use it as a secondary phone when you decide to go out for dinner or whatever? That would be the best thing to do imo.

However, if you rely on your phone for taking pictures, since you say you take pictures of everything, how bummed are you going to be when you are out and about with your secondary phone that can't take a good picture (or one at all if you went with that indiegogo phone)?

Um - get a flip phone if you want that functionality. Please don't spend a fortune for a cool looking phone that can only do what a dirt cheap flip phone can do. Beauty is only skin deep, so don't give them the entire arm and leg for just some pretty skin.

Look on Craig's List for an old flip phone that's on the same carrier you use. It shouldn't be more than $20 (sometimes you can even find one for $5). Make the swap (your money for their phone) at the carrier - so that you can be sure that the phone hasn't been reported stolen and so that they can list you as the owner. (A typical craig's List scam is to steal a phone, then sell it. This prevents the possibility - unless the original owner thought that the phone wasn't worth enough to report it. But at least you won't pay for the phone and be left with one that doesn't work.)

Couldn't you just create a guest user and start there?

Consider yourself blasted. If you want to use the phone minimally, then use it minimally. It's simply perverse to shell out $$$ for bleeding-edge tech and then turn around and set it up to be bloody retro-useless.

LOL thank you all for your input... and I appreciate not being judged........... /sarcasm
