There seems to be a "light sensor unavailable" messeage thats been popping up during power up & everytime I unlock...anyone know how to remove & why its on!?
i flashed no ROMS, only a recovery so far.

OV new

Well I know for a fact that there is no light sensor...
It's probably an application you have running. Or, check your display settings, see what you have set there.

There is a proximity sensor though, does it work off light level? I don't really know, and even if it did, it would probably report as a proximity sensor, and not a light sensor.

Proximity sensor??? I don't know about that either but as far as in display options thr is no setting for this on/off or otherwise ...hmmm
no real special need or apps that would require this that I have installed

Maybe I got the name wrong, but it's the sensor that determines whether or not to turn the screen off while in call. I always imagined it was a photosensor, which turns the screen off when the side of your face blocks out enough light. I'm not sure about this, but there's got to be some sensor that tell it when to turn the screen off in call.

Yup there is. If you hold the phone up in the sunlight you can clearly see it. Its two little circles to the left (I believe) of the mic. Its the proximity sensor. All mid range and up touch screen phones have one (I say mid range and up because my old rumor touch didn't have one.). It can tell based on the amount of light coming in when to turn the screen off when on a phone call. On some phones, but not ours (afaik) it can also determine how bright it is out, and it will adjust the phone's brightness accordingly. I don't know why you would be getting that notification, but like others said, it may be an app.

Tapatalkin it from my IHO CM7.2'd, MIUI Themed Optimus V

Well looking through the cyanogen menu/settings last nite I did it come across that proximity sensor setting, so indeed that information was interesting to learn.
still have no clue what app would be causing a light sensor message to appear however if it is even in fact that anyway....??

The proximty sensor is magnetic, and the light sensor? It's a feature built into some models that allows them to adjust their brightness automatically, but sadly it does not work with the Optimus V

The proximity sensor is not magnetic, it is a light sensor. It is just not usable to control the brightness of the screen. If you doubt me, make a call then cover sensor (top left corner just above the screen) with a piece of paper and watch screen shut off.
