Limiting text notification sounds

Hi there

I'm a new android convert from iPhone and i was hoping someone could answer my question please...
Can i set the text notification sounds so that if someone texts me i get one text alert sound and if they subsequently text something no sounds are heard.
I hate it when someone texts say 8 messages and my phone alerts me to every single text. Even when I'm replying to their first text the phone plays text alert sounds for every single message they send.

Unsure if its helpful but i have a samsung S8 plus.

Welcome to Android Central! No, I don't believe that's possible. Many SMS apps won't give you a notification for an incoming message if you already have that conversation open, though -- this is common with stock SMS apps. That isn't happening with yours?

If the notification tone is irritating, you can always change it to something more pleasant (either from the preinstalled tones, or you can create your own custom tone).

Give "textra" a try.
It has a toggle in the settings to play/not-play the notification sound when the app is open.
