Little advice Please Fast

So I am not a fannyboy or whatever you call it lol

I had the samsung omnia 2 and hated everyday of it

Seen the iphone and got it

Now i see this and i am thinking should i return it. I have read alot but i just dont know

I was at a friends house and he had the droid x and we where comparing my phone to his and his locked up 2x had to remove battery 1x and overall my phone walked all over his due to a buggy os. Also the battery sucked we both started on a full charge and mine was at 60% and his was at 30%

Now i loved the swype and cant get that on the iphone. Also like the fact that apps are free but again buggy as hell.

My iphone i love but i really want swype and more battery. I get about 9 hrs of soild use on it.

So my question is will this phone be like the droid x? 5 hrs of battery, buggy as heck, fadded screen... ect?

Another thing is do you think 4g will cost more because we dont really even get 3g so im not paying for more that i wont get...

Just looking for some thoughts and again i am not a mac guy so please dont go there. I just want a phone that works and is fast with long battery life. Let me know what you all think as i only have a few more days to return the iphone

Thanks in advance for not hating on iphone because from what i seen it walks all over the droid x and 2 and is not fair to compare to a new 4g phone as the iphone is 9 mo old already...

I'd say, if you're looking for long battery life, you may want to consider a different phone. 1400mAh doesn't really sound like much and from what I've heard, it will not last very long. That is honestly my only gripe with this phone. Though verizon's coverage is amazing.

i seen that but im sure you can get a ext battery i dont care about size really. To be honest i dont like small phones. They twist in your pocket and get broke. Bigger they stay in place. But yeah a little battery with all this power i was thinking it was going to be worst then the x that is why i am asking you all

My advice, wait for first week reviews. This way you can gauge everyone's battery life reports and overall satisfaction with the phone. Or maybe you'll know someone who gets the phone and you can play with it that way.

Yeah but then i wont be able to return the iphone... and i guess verizon has a return of only 2 phones a year now and each time it cost 35 bucks as well

I just dont want to deal with another crappy phone for a hole year like i did with the omnia 2

Well, you seem pretty content with the iPhone so I say stick with that. At best the Thunderbolt's battery MAY be on par with the iPhone though I highly doubt it. The only real advantage your looking for is swype. Now ask yourself, is that one app worth returning your iPhone? Whatever answer you choose is the phone you should stick with.

I have a Droid X, and I get a full day's use with it left around 30% when I go to bed, so if your buddy only gets 5 hours, then he has it set up really really poorly. If I'm not constantly checking twitter and browsing, I get around a day and a half before it dies. Since his is crashing, and required a battery pull, I would imagine he either left it stock or put a sh***y ROM on it. I personally am running Tranquility 3.7, undervolted and overclocked to 1.2GHz and it never crashes, and I have never pulled the battery.

Back to the TB though... I can only imagine that comparing a stock DX to a stock TB that the TB will be more stable since HTC's software tends to be significantly more polished than Moto's. Anything we say about battery life is just speculation. Some people have been complaining about 1400mah battery in the TB, but it could turn out that it only needs that much with it's chip being fab'd on a smaller process than previous snapdragon chips. We'll know for sure once reviews come out. All accounts I've heard say that the screen on the TB is quite nice. It is not a "retina" screen, but honestly, that never bothered me. Apple doesn't even use the extra resolution in a meaningful way. Typically an increase in resolution means an increase in screen real estate. Apple just uses it to smooth things out. 480x800 should be plenty high resolution, and 4.3" feels just right for screen size to me. 3.5" on the other hand is just too small to be useful for productive purposes.

The main thing with Android devices is that you have to be prepared for a learning curve. They reward those that put in the effort to make it perfect for them. If you want a great out of the box experience, stick with the iPhone. If you are willing to put in the effort to customize a TB and maximize it's potential, the TB will end up being a much nicer device than the iPhone. As far as your buddy's DX goes, don't take that as a good example of Android as a platform. I don't know what he is doing, but he is definitely doing something wrong if it constantly crashes and drains that quickly.

It really depends on when you got your iPhone. I mean a phone of the Thunderbolt's specs is going to use some battery although if you don't have 4G coverage, that may extend battery life a little.

I personally have never had an Android phone, however many people have said that HTC's implementation of Android and the skin they have over it is much better than Motorola's.

As for 4G pricing... from all of the rumors and the leaked Thunderbolt Best Buy ad, it looks like the pricing may be the same as 3G until 4G becomes more widespread. It's hard to say because there hasn't been any official word, however given the fact that the 4G data card pricing is the same as the 3G cards I would figure it would be the same with the phones (again until LTE becomes more widespread at least).

Alot of good points and reading around it sounds like you have to do alot of modding to set them up right.

I really dont know. I wish i knew the price for 4g that would make it easy because i am not paying more as i said the 3g dont even really work where i am.

Other thought i could return the iphone and wait but i really dont want to go back to the omnia 2 lol really it sucks bad. cant do anything. Also thought about grabbing a used x or 2 but there going for 200-300 and waiting until all the bugs get worked out later this year and then just picking a phone then, But again at 2-300 thats alot just to hold my upgrade pricing.

I'm personally buying a TB off contract. Every VZW rep I have spoken to says that 4G pricing will not change from 3G.

It is not as daunting as it might sound to set up a DX or other Android phones. For the DX, it goes something like this: Make sure you are upgraded to the latest version from VZW, Z4Root, Droid Bootstrap, Figure out which ROM you want, Install it (shouldn't be more complicated then rebooting into clockwork recovery and selecting the .zip file for the ROM), use built in overclocking tools or JRummy's wonder Droid Overclock tool, customize your homescreens/lockscreen. Never takes me more then 30-45 minutes to redo my phone, especially considering ADW.Launcher and many other programs let you backup and restore your settings for just this purpose.

I can only imagine modding the TB will be even better since HTC devices tend to get a lot more love from the modding community. I personally can't wait to finally have a device that can run CyanogenMod and other greats.

Again, it all comes down to how much effort you want to put into the phone. Some of us on here love tinkering and pushing our phones to their limits. If that is you, then the TB is going to be amazing. A lot of people really love stock Sense as well, so if you are looking for a really advanced stock experience, it will likely also be a good choice. Just a heads up - The DX's stock experience is not great, so if that is what you are planning, I would advise against it.

Android is all about customization. That is why it is so popular. You can make it do just about whatever. Just create it open source. Plus, it's always being updated in some manner. It's never the same from day one to day two. Now if that is not something that you are interested in, I can understand. Apple is good for having a great stock experience. It's what every normal personal wants. The manufacturer will do all the work. That's completely fine. So choose really on those grounds. As for battery life, apple is just better. If you know what you are doing, you can make android last longer, but NOT IN STOCK SITUATION. I am not well versed in android yet, however, with my little bit of knowledge I am able to understand what it takes to make my battery last. That means it won't take a lot of work to better your batt. range. I choose choice, so I choose android. Many of my friends choose great stock and don't mind paying for the changes Apple mandates and can be bought in the app store. That's fine too because it's a lot easier. So...what do you want?

Don't forget you can switch out batteries if you need to. I've had my Droid go nearly 2 days between charges before, and that was with twitter on 15 minute updates, a weather service widget updating the same, and playing Angry Birds for an hour. I didn't even have to look at my spare battery that time (mostly for travel).

Out of all those categories, the iPhone only wins 1 (do note that battery life was not factored in as we do not yet know the exact battery life of the thunderbolt, only estimates). Looks like a solid win for the TB to me

Actually it will do data and talk even over 3G - having 4G service is not a requisite

The Thunderbolt allegedly has an SVDO radio as opposed to the more common EVDO radio and can therefore do data and voice at the same time over 3G.

But be warned, blackmanx (a Verizon network engineer and out favorite source for "leaks") stated that data speeds were rather slow while doing this and that you should only expect 200-300 kbps while on a call.

But it will be a great feature for when you are tethering or using navigation and a call comes in
