They need to add a feature to the camera similar to what the iPhone does when you are trying to use Live Focus. The iPhone will tell you why you can't use the feature by telling you what to change (get closer or get further away). 9 times out of 10 when I try and use Live Focus, it tells me it isnt available because of the situation. Well tell me what the situation is so I can correct it, for hell's sake!

Usually for me it's been low light, and when it is available it lightz up and shows Live. I've been practicing and getting a little better. Live feature works best in well lit situations.20171230_115333-1470x3024.jpg20171230_115548-1470x3024.jpg20171230_114337-1470x3024.jpg

I quit waiting for live focus to do its thing, because it never did. I use my other camera app and don't have to wait for anything. great bokeh for all subjects, no waiting, and works in all lighting settings.

Those things should be in the newest update many of us are still waiting on. I was having a moan in the Note 8 Photos forum yesterday for the same thing. Portrait Mode on the iPhone and Wide Aperture mode on my old Huawei P10 had a much better success rate than Live Focus. Too many times I just keep getting "live focus not applied due to shooting condtions" which is just vague tbh

live focus is hype imo. bokeh is the beautiful effect you get with the background when a nice subject is well lit and in tight focus. it's a lovely, soft blurring that if done right, with an unobtrusive background, really enhances the shot. it's very important with macro photography, my favorite area.

The ONLY situation that I have encountered when live focus doesn't work is in a low light situation. I suppose it might not work in a group shot where you are trying to focus on one person and blur everyone else, but that would be plain foolish to even attempt that. It might not work if your subject and background are just too close together, again not a situation that calls for using live focus.

So when live focus doesn't work for me, it's all about not having enough available light. BTW, in that low light situation flash will not help.
