for some reason every few minutes i get the location icon flashing up in the top left of the notification bar. there is always the location icon on the right hand side which i believe is normal but i've never had the one on the left before.

any ideas?

it is actively checking what your location is to update location based services.

ok, any way to turn off the notification? i don't need to know when it's doing that.

I think the only way to turn it off would be to turn off location services. If you go into settings you can turn it off.

yea the command center widget will periodically check for location data for the weather.

This happened to me when I had the Moto Assist on for Driving and Home.

I have the command center on with those other two off, and I barely see the location symbol.

Yesterday I install TripAdvisor's and today my location icon on my nexus 6 is flashing non stop so I uninstall it and the stop the flashing location icon.

The command center will only check location if you have the 'current location' setting on, I keep mine off unless its needed. Also you definitely can't turn off location notifications without disabling locations all together. Make sure that its not a third party app, I had the app my tracks and it ran all day, used more battery than the screen.
