location icon, why is it on?

I've turned off GPS. This icon still shows up. Why?

I'm trying to get the most out of my battery by turning off location services, from what I read though LTE needs it?

GPS on and GPS off look very similar, but at least one shows up on the top bar... look in the manual... the only difference between the two are some things that looks like signal waves when it is on... the symbol without the waves is off.

Does Google Latitude drain the battery significantly?

It is probably 911 emergency I have my turned off and still have the icon

Again... LOOK AT THE MANUAL... that is the GPS... and if it has the )), then it's on... but there are two options that can turn this on under Settings, Location... the VZW Location Services and Standalone GPS Services... are both of these turned off (Un-checked)?

Even if all the gps services are turned off you will see that icon. It's just how HTC displays stuff like this. W/out the )) next to it, it means gps is turned off. Stupid really, but that's how they do it.
