Location of MMS messages

[Android Central Question]

Have used Astro File Mgr and Win 10 File Mgr on laptop with USB connection to search entire phone (Samsung Galaxy S8, Android version 8.0.0 Samsung exper version 9.0) and can't find MMS. Have tried all suggestions I've seen on this and other fora. Do I need to root my Android to locate and backup MMS?

Depends on your phone. Latest Samsung phones, yeah, I think they need root for MMS to be backed up (and remember, only downloaded MMS will do so). You can do it directly with SmartSwitch but that will only let you transfer to another Samsung phone.

You might try 3rd party messaging back up apps and see if they can back those up. You won't find them as 'normal' files, though.
