With the recent revelation about the iPhone and ipad tracking locations without user consent, does the android platform do this as well?

I see an enable GPS use for location in the options, and I've unchecked it.

Anything else I should be looking for to keep my location private?

Turn off "use wireless networks" in location settings. Thats what allows the mobile or wifi network to determine your location

Google does admit to taking random location info but they use it more for traffic activity and network monitoring. When you first set up your phone it asks you to allow such tracking.
I saw the news reports your referring to about the files apple keeps on iphones in regards to tracking. I think this is different but i too am now wondering.
