Lock on lock screen is really small

Hey all. I've got a strange issue going on here and I quite figure out what it is. It's not a deal breaker but none the less strange. I've had my S4 for about 3 weeks and it has been fine. I opened a text message from the lockscreen one morning and the next time I went to unlock my phone the lock on the lock screen was so small I could barely see it and it stayed that way. I restarted the phone and the lock returned to normal size. After a dozen unlocks or so the lock returned to being small again. Anyone else have this? My main widget on my lockscreen is the DashClock and I have changed this but it didn't fix anything. Attached is a screen shot and you can see the little lock between the 2 wooden pillar things. Any suggestions?

2 questions...

1. How do you open a text message from the lockscreen?!? I've been trying to figure out how to do this since I got the phone!

2. Is this the "standard" Touchwiz lockscreen, or have to you replaced it with something else? If it is the standard lockscreen, what is the security enabled on it? Swipe to unlock? I ask because I don't have a lock icon at all on my screen, large or small...it just says "swipe to unlock"

1. There is an option in the settings of the messaging app to preview your new messages. I believe that is what I enabled

2. That is the standard touchwiz lock screen with no security enabled.

Ah thanks...I don't want a message preview to appear, was hoping I could be able to open messages from that gigantic notification that appears...but it doesn't appear that I can without enabling the preview.

Not sure about that icon...like I said, I don't even have one, I just swipe across the screen and it unlocks. I also don't have multiple widgets enabled or any 3rd party widgets or app shortcuts on my lockscreen either (I prefer a very minimal screen)

If you tap the actual message box on the lock screen it will dim the rest of the screen and tell you to unlock the device, and once you do that it will go directly to the message.

I don't even have a lock symbol on mine. How did you get the weather and calendar symbol to show up next to your clock ?
