Android Central Question

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S7, unrooted
OS: Android 7.0 (Nougat)
Carrier: Verizon

I have lock screen notifications turned on for email. I have not been able to locate more granular settings than the one under Settings -> Notifications.
I have three email accounts configured on the phone: one corporate (Outlook Exchange Server) and two Gmail accounts. Lock screen notifications and LED indicators do appear according to settings.

However, if emails are read from another location (e.g., computer terminal) lock screen notifications do not disappear as should be expected. This behavior is observed even after waiting for a sync cycle to complete (15 minutes).

It appears that push notifications are enabled to display the lock screen icons and LED for received mail, but there's nothing to clear notification icons when messages have been read. Similarly, lock screen notifications do not disappear for Outlook calendar events when they are dismissed elsewhere.

To get rid of these notification icons, I have to unlock the screen, pull down the notifications shade, and Clear All Notifications. I consider this a bug since it's counterintuitive and illogical. I also can't tell at a glance if I've seen all my mail or not. And finally, I rely on fast response times, and I want 5-minute timeframes for checking email.

Is there anything that can be done? Thanks in advance for any help.
