Lock screen universal music controls

AT&T finally upgraded the LGOG to JB 4.1.2. Before that I was using WidgetLocker, since as a long time iOS user I wanted music controls for Pandora and Spotify without having to unlock the phone. I was using Media Buttons on the lock screen and it worked great. Worked with both programs. Now, if I'm listening to either, the pause button is showing a pause symbol, but if I push it, it shuts off the song and starts Google Music. How do I set it back to look at whatever app is playing music at that time and pause that song and resume it when I'm ready?
