Lock Screen woes..

Hey guys, first time poster but I come on here a lot to find answers to problems I might have (which isn't often).

Unlike many I've already grown accustomed to the "change" that is Lollipop, but I do still have one problem. If my phone is locked and the screen is off and I receive a text message or any other kind of notification that would turn my screen on, it no longer dims and turns off again on it's own. For example, if I go to bed and someone sends me a text my screen stays on until I wake up and find it on. This obviously drains a lot of the battery (although I don't seem to have extra battery drain like some).

The same problem happens if my phone is locked and I hit the home or power button (to turn on the screen) to see what notifications I have. Once the screen is turned on to the lock screen, it doesn't dim and then turn off like it used to.

Any ideas?

What's your phone? Maybe there's a conflict between the stock ambient display and your specific OEM settings.

What are your "ambient display" and "sleep" settings?

Wow yeah, I should have mentioned that.

I've got a GS5 and I'm not sure how to check my sleep and ambient display settings. My "Screen Timeout" is set to 15 seconds, the shortest available option. My "Screen Mode" is set to Adapt Display. "Smart Stay" is on but has no affect either way. My brightness is on auto so it adjusts brightness based on ambient light.

Have you looked in the Samsung Galaxy S5 - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com discussions? I know there was some discussion there about the lock screen. I had my notifications set to "on" but don't like it because I don't want just anyone being able to see them. But I wanted the little icons in the upper left hand corner back--nope. Either on or off. So maybe the phone not turning off is a lollipop "upgrade".

Yeah, I looked through them a bit. I don't mind the notifications but it would seem crazy for the screen not to have a dim > off timeout anymore.

Anyone?
