I have att and from lockscreen i can remove it.
Hold down the clock then swipe down. From there just hold clock and drag to remove

Very weird. It simply doesn't work that way for me. It has a rocking kind of animated effect when swiping side to side, but it can't be moved up or down.

Someone on XDA forums clued me in. I needed to enable lock screen widgets in settings to allow me to remove it.

Can anyone else confirm if they have a black "burn-in" or "fade" at the top of the lock screen with any light background?

Interesting...so it is a thing with the phone. I thought it was a burn-in, but I looked up a bunch of pics and tried a bunch of things on mine to see if it is truly, burned in. It appears that it is only on the lock screen and homescreens. If you check other apps and rotate the phone there is no "black" top bar. BTW, Wesklake, Ohio? I am from Cleveland...

It's there so you can see the items on the status bar, but I'm sure you figured that out.
