Locked Moto X AT&T - Root / wireless tether?

Sorry, I'm sure this question has been asked to death around here, but looking for a root method for locked AT&T 2013 Moto X running 4.4.4. Last post I could find by Googling was from 24 days ago, and said rooting with 4.4.4 was not possible. Tried the Sunshine bootloader unlock, but said I needed to be rooted. Actually, I'm just looking for a way to wireless tether - currently blocked by the carrier.

I think Sunshine temporarily roots your phone when you use it. Let me know if you managed to unlock it. I also have Moto X AT&T 4.4.4 and thinkig of using sunshine but before I want to check if I can send it back.
