Hello all,
Finaly I am able to get Nexus 4 from carrier in my country. But I am not using that carrier, so my uncle is willing to get me phone, but I think it will be locked. Is it easy to unlock it and stuff or is it pain in the a** as iphone were?
Should I go for it? ATM using galaxy nexus.

What do you mean unlock? I thought Nexus 4s were unlocked and ready to use on any carrier right out of the box.

More information please. N4 is already an unlock phone...

From playstore, yeah. But one carrier got some and they say it is locked.

In order to use a Nexus 4 purchased from carrier A on the network of carrier B, here's what you need to do:

Insert carrier B's SIM into the Nexus 4 =)

Yeah buddy. Nexus 4 comes unlocked, just pop a new Sim in and your good to go.

I had a similar sort of question, I'm from the UK and also a little unsure if my phone is locked or not?

I didn't buy my handset from the Google playstore, it came straight from my carrier (O2) as an upgrade.

I think what the OP was asking is that are Nexus 4's supplied through a carrier locked to that specific carrier.

In the UK you can buy any handset SIM free and it will accept any SIM, but carrier supplied phones are 99% locked.

Andy.

Yeah, that is my question...
Is it possible to lock N4

Every phone can be locked. It all depends on the provider you are getting it from.

How muich will it cost to unlock? Depends on where you live and where you take it to get unlocked.

In the UK the "average" price for unlocking most phones is ?10. The newer phones are usually charged ?20 to unlock.

Easy to check..

Go to any other providers website and order one of their free sim cards. Plug it in and see if it works :)

I think Nuuq is in Bosnia and doesn't have the options we do in America. My guess is the phone is unlocked, but the carrier is saying it's locked to discourage customers from switching (FUD) but that's just a guess.

thats the beauty of any Nexus devices. you buy it from playstore or from carriers its always unlocked.
its the same phone but sold by different retailer(Google and O2).

I think some of you are confusing SIM unlocked with an unlocked bootloader. The Nexus 4 is SIM unlocked with a locked bootloader that is VERY easy to unlock/relock.

So I should go for it?
Even if it is locked to carrier, I can, if I understood, unlock it easy?

It will not be locked to the carrier. As long as you have a compatible sim card you can use it on any carrier.

I don't think any nexus device is locked to a carrier, even if it is sold by said carrier. I bought my Galaxy Nexus on contract from Bell in Canada, and it was still SIM unlocked out of the box. I'm pretty sure that it is a google requirement, which is probably one of the reasons why not many carriers have offered the Nexus devices.

Just wanted you all to know that I just got my new N4 :)
It was unlocked!!!
Thanks all.
