Since htcsence.com hasn't added the TB and is having recent issues with these services anyway, I was curious if anyone has experimented with the various apps that lock/wipe. They tend to be buggy/inconsistent anyway for these functions. Any luck with Lookout, Wavesecure, Webroot, Prey on the bolt?

are you guys experiencing any of the issues as stated by some of the reviewers of the app,
"phone seemed to crawl after installation"
or
"website takes way too long to update, thief would be out of the country by the time it did"
etc?

No.
I haven't noticed any slowing down. The other day I made the commitment to use the phone how I want as well, not turning off all the bells and whistles.
It's still screaming.

When I check my location, it takes about 20 seconds to 30 seconds to get an approxamate area (Cell towers) and less than 2 minutes to put me exactly where I'm at.

That being said...I work in an old building, cell coverage isn't very good.
I get 1-2 bars at my desk. I often have to go to the window to activate a blackberry on BES.
It takes about 4 minutes to pinpoint me at work while at my desk.
If I go about 10 feet towards the window...it's the same 2 minutes.

thanks

just bought it.

using Tasker, i could remotely turn on GPS via text message (and could also enable most other functions of the app) and then use Latitude to see where the phone is located--
but i'm not familiar enough with the coding entries in Tasker to enable locking/wiping/alarm and so on. so this is a nice convenient app for a pretty good price.

I've read and learned to leave GPS on. I haven't noticed any difference in battery life by leaving it on...unless I was using Google Navigation.

This is strictly my thoughts, so take it as you may.
It pulls from cell tower first, that's why you get the approximation, then it takes a few minutes to lock in via GPS.
You'll notice the GPS flashing when you try to locate.

And obviously, if you're in a building, etc., without a GPS signal...it's gonna take forever and/or not work.

Triangulation by cell tower can only get you so close...
