Locks up on boot

I think this might be my first post. Haven't posted yet because I didn't know anything and didn't need any help. Anyhow, now I need help. I have a 1010 build captivate that started not booting. It gets the the home screen, but locks up before you can really do anything. Sometimes I can soft reset it, but the process just starts again. I rooted the phone once with super one click, but unrooted it shortly afterwards because I wasn't ready to fool with it that much. I received the update for side-loading this last weekend and put the Amazon market up there and a couple apps. Problem seemed to start after that. I will try and reset the phone, but is there a way to get any of my data off? I had quite a few things on the internal sd, and I don't want to lose it all, mostly the pics. Thanks for any help you all can provide. I've searched a lot, but haven't found any threads with a similar problem as mine.

I'm not sure, but I don't think a reset through recovery wipes the internal SD. Don't quote me on that though :p. Do you have enough time to mount the SD card before the phone locks up? File transfer shouldn't stop unless the phone reboots, so that might be a last resort.

Try a factory reset in recovery (hold both volume buttons and press power like you're turning on, you should get a blue menu).

I think you might be able to get there through the MENU as well. Buried in About Phone somewhere? But yes, a reset should resolve it. You will not lose your data, but you do need to humpty dumpty your phone (settings/apps).

Yeah, that works too, unless your phone is locking up on boot :p

Thanks for the replies. I was able to get the phone to mount before it locked up completely (took a few tries). I got all my pics off and reset it. Seems to be working ok now. Who knows what messed it all up. Maybe Android phones are just like windows, you need to wipe them now and again! I hope not.
