Login Pattern Prevents Car Mode starting up.

I thought this was just an issue with the Samsung Galaxy S5 Car Mode. So I downloaded a third party app, Car Home Ultra, and set it up. And it does the same thing.

When the phone detects the bluetooth connection, it tries to start car mode. But it seems that if I don't pick up the phone and enter my login pattern car mode doesn't fully load.

So the voice controls don't work. Now I'm going 100km/h down the highway and the thing isn't working until I enter a pattern.

Similarly, if I go for a short trip, because it doesn't fully load, when I get out of the car, it is still in this half-loaded state so a phone call comes in and I miss it because it is still trying to talk to my long-gone bluetooth connection.

Is there a way to fix this so car mode can fully load but I still have security on the phone?

Try setting your car as a trusted device. Assuming the same as stock Android OS, Settings -> Security -> Smart Lock -> Trusted Devices -> your car's Bluetooth connection.
