As an aside: Keep in mind that Verizon is planning to roll out with tiered data this summer and most suspect that it is going to be more expensive for LTE.

By doing a 2-year contract you will be locking in unlimited 3G and 4G for the $29.99 for 2 years... if you do just the 1-year contract you may end up having to pay more for data a year from now

Yes what he said

Dunno why you guys think prices change with a new contract because they don't. You're not locked into anything.

I was told by Verizon that if I did a one year contract I had to wait 18 months to be eligible to get a new phone discounted. Did the manager lie to me?

I almost always do one year contracts. Its the only way to go.

I also dont use that much data ~1GB/month now. I hope I can save on a tiered data plan.

This is correct once you have a plan you usually are allowed to keep it contract or not. I agree I might even save a little $ on a tier plan.
