I believe I read this in a different thread but can't find it now. Is it true that Nexus 6 devices not purchased through VZW to use on their network will not be getting the 5.1 update? I know if you purchase it through VZW it ships with 5.1 but can't find anything about the devices that were purchased via the Play Store or Motorola.

You're correct. Anyone with a vzw SIM card will not get an update for some stupid reason. You can force an update if you pull your SIM card out and wipe the phone. On reboot it will download the D build if the SIM is still out. The only issue is people recommend the E build for Verizon customers.

I'm using D on vzw with zero issues. When 5.1.1 releases I'll change it to the newest build

Take the sim out and run the update. When it installs pop sim in. That's what I did. I'm running 5.1 on Verizon. I bought my phone from Tmobile.

I got the 5.1 update today on my Google purchased Nexus 6 on Verizon without pulling the sim out. I've been using my old Moto X sim since I purchased it.

Actually received my update yesterday, i'm on a t-mobile purchased nexus 6 while using a vzw 2013 moto x sim.

Did anyone have trouble getting this to work? I've pulled the SIM and then wipe, the update downloads, and then EVERY time it boots to install the update I get an error. Done it 3 times already.

Should i try taking a friends non-VZW SIM card and seeing if it completes that way? Call Google Support? HALP

Edit: Also for those recommending WugFresh (I havent rooted/unlocked much in the past year or so), I know that his app makes it easy to root/unlock. Do I simply need to go to Google and download the 5.1 (or 5.1.1?) source file and then push it with WugFresh? Any links to a How-To would be much appreciated.

Yeah it's soo easy it's not funny. Got my n6 2wks ago, and in the last 3 days I've flashed stock roms, cm, validus, and a few others. When going to cm had to figure out how to flash again with different program, but came back to a stock ROM since i have VZW need data & voice at the same time.
