Been quiet for a while but now that we're in a new year - any whispers of when we may see Lollipop for the GS5?

Well yes and No Vodafone UK have rolled there Blaoted Version out, Not that there customers have got excited over this, Might be that they Banned user that spoke out about the Last mess of a update.
I have tested the Non bloated and i'm not impressed there is fare to much white and its not brought much change
so back it went to 4.4.2
you need to be realy sure before you upgrade

New software is not always "an upgrade" when it comes to performance or appearance or functionality.

I am hoping that Verizon will allow us the option to retain 4.4.4 which is working "just fine", thank you.

Well, like I said before, Google, the wireless carriers, and Samsung monitor these forums. Google has already released Android 5.0 so it's now down to Samsung and the wireless carriers. Samsung has already skinned Android 5.0 and it's ready to go, now all we have to do is wait for the wireless carriers. They like to play a little trick though. You see, they were going to release Android 5.0 to everyone in early January but they kept coming across "where's lollipop?" threads in the forums. They delay the release of 5.0 by one day for each post they see. It's now scheduled to come out in December 5, 2034 thanks to your post :( thanks a lot!

Seriously though, it hasn't really been "quiet for a while." There's at least one new post a day asking where Android 5.0 for the S5 and the answers are always the same: It's in XX European country but nobody knows when it will come out in XY country on XYZ carrier. Your guess is honestly as good as anyone else's when it will hit your country and your wireless carrier. Anyone who truly knows what's going on can't disclose that information as they either work at Samsung, Google, or for the wireless carriers and they would lose their jobs.

So 4.4.2 is better? I'm tired of not being able to read my messages from the lock screen... I would also like flashlight accessibility from the lock screen

Will these be available in 5.0?

Not sure why you aren't able to view messages from your lock screen--may be dependent on model though however I am on 4.4.2 with no problem. I believe its under message settings that you can switch this over.

My SMS show up on the lockscreen IF you use the swipe lockscreen.

they don't on the Pattern Draw lockscreen.

I really don't care, just pull down the notification panel and click on the message.

I hear ya but it's just another step I don't want to do. ... so it only works if I have swipe unlock set?

On my S5, with my particular set of apps running, and the way they are configured.

the answer is "yes"

see my signature.

The other poster was correct, it is a setting under messages - doesn't matter what unlock type you have set.

maybe on your phone, but it is NOT on my Verizon S5 phone.

neither under Settings/Messages

nor is it available in Textra/Settings

it works with swipe, it does not work with Pattern Draw.

Having used Lollipop on a Pure Edition Moto X i'd have to say I liked 4.4.4 better. It may have been the size of the new Moto X too. Didn't like it. Went back to a 2013 model until my Xperia Z3 compact arrives.

I updated my S5 via kies tonight. So far I'm really liking lollipop.

I'm on Vodafone in the UK and 'upgraded' my S5 to Lollipop yesterday. So far I am struggling to see why I bothered.

The only differences that I can see are the changing of the dark backgrounds to white, the Touchwiz blue lightening up a little and the lack of the music controls on the lock screen.

I know that I am only seeing the Touchwiz version of 5.0 but Samsung seem to have decided that Lollipop isn't for us and the features that I was looking forward to are nowhere to be seen.

In particular, Smart Lock. This is just nowhere to be found on my phone. I would love to be able to disable my lock screen when at home or in my office but Samsung won't let me.

I don't notice any huge differences in the lock screen itself either. The whole switch to Lollipop, so far anyway, seems to be a total waste of time.

I think that I would like to root my phone and install the standard lollipop ROM, would this be possible or is it not yet safe to do so?

Thanks!
