Long-press home button means what?

OK, so I know when I long-press the home button it brings up recent apps. But my question is it a list of which apps are actually still running, or just a recent list of what I have been using?

Because then I have two choices; I can either" remove all", or go to task manager and end the app.

If I remove all does it mean I am closing all those apps or just removing them from my recent list. And are the apps on that list actually in RAM at the moment?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Pressing the Home button only shows the apps you've been using.

If you go to Settings > Applications > All, you will be able to see all if the apps that are running.

Removing from list only (NOT closing)

to close apps, go to Task Manager and close selected apps or close all.

You don't necessarily have to go to Task Manager to close them.
If you swipe them app away or Remove All, it will close them.
To confirm, view open apps in the Task Manager. Go back to recent apps, then swipe a few apps away. If you go back to the Task Manager they will be closed.
Same holds true for the Remove All feature.

Yes the apps are using RAM. If you swipe each app away or End the app, your RAM will begin to free up space, or you can close all of them at once to free up additional RAM.

If you go to the samsung app store you can get this really cool widget that alway shows you how many apps are open and when you tap it it brings you right to all them settings to stop apps and/or clear ram.

Note 2, it's true, ,size is everything!
