Well, here is the story. I was feeling a little down on myself since I am currently being forced to use an iPhone 4. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely device, but very much not for me. I was waiting patiently for ICS to come along and start taking advantage of that second core that seems to be all the rage nowadays, and had my fingers crossed for a vanilla Android experience when my POS Bberry Tour decided to die in March. I decided to bite the bullet and try out the iPhone 4 knowing that no matter what phone I got, I would end up selling it later anyway and that there are always sheeples waiting to line up on eBay and pay top dollar for a used jesus phone.
Then this shattered beauty entered my life. This poor little Droid 2 was found on the side of the road, neglected and broken. I figured I might as well take it home and check it out further. I got home and borrowed a OG Droid battery (same as D2) and plugged it in. Lo and behold, when I finally managed to press the mangled power/sleep button, the phone appeared to turn on! (albeit without sound). The light next to the microUSB port is on when the phone is "turned on" and plugged in, and although I can see nothing on the shattered screen, the capacitive buttons light up, the automatic brightness sensor seems to be working as the turn on and off in brightness, and there is even haptic feedback! When I press the search button, there are haptic responses signifying that there is an invisible keyboard on the bottom part of that otherwise dark screen. Sometimes the haptic responses continue after you stop typing on the screen, but im willing to chalk that up to the shattered screen. In addition, sliding out the keypad makes the backlighting on the keyboard fade on just like it is supposed to.
So now I have this problem... I have some expendable cash and time on my hands, so what should I do with this? I am looking around for the proper torx screwdrivers to open the casing all the way and rip it apart, but the fact that it seems to be functioning apart from the fact that there is no sound and no display is encouraging me to think that perhaps the motherboard is okay having been protected by the rest of the phone casing. Should I buy another Global D2 on ebay with a bad ESN and try replacing the motherboard? I am assuming that would work since the ESN is associated with the motherboard and not the rest of the phone, but do you think that the ESN on this phone could be bad as well? Is verizon in the habit of doing that to phones that have fallen out of car windows? haha.
Help me out please! I would love to get this thing running again. Then I could sell my iPhone now before the iPhone 5 comes out and have a decent Android phone to keep me going until something better comes out.
