This morning I received this interesting email from google team:

They are introducing Nexus S to me a year and a half from the date I bought it.
This kind of BS I really don't like from google, plus updates being very late for UK versions of my phone. I had to wait few months for ICS to get to my phone and now it seems I will be waiting for Jelly Bean to get to me. No surprise there because it seems google team is stuck in 2011. When was nexus s released? :D In their minds ICS might have been just a thought and jelly bean a fantasy.
Oh well, I must go explore endless possibilities of my brand spanking next gen nexus s ;)

Had a similar experience, which may explain yours.

While upgrading to new Android phone, was without service for about six hours.

During that time, all text messages to me were apparently sent to Picasso (rather than photobucket...same idea, a place where you can upload photos).

All the texts were converted to .png images which were delivered to my inbox as attachments, once my number was transferred and activated on the new phone.

I realize that doesn't explain the outdated content, but guess it's possible the phone number was recycled from quite a while back. Could be the system automatically sent the image with the old message to that number when it was activated.

In any case, Google obviously screwed up, either by sending outdated material or didn't set up the system so that it wouldn't deliver "old" messages meant for the previous user of your number. Who knows?

I worked for Google for years (Internet Search and Marketing, not Android) and you can rest assured the corporation as a whole tends to follow the old saying, "The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing". Would love to comment about where at least of the thumbs probably is, but this post probably wouldn't stay up very long and I'd most likely be banned.

Anyway, the above info might explain part of the reason you received the image.

No no, I made the image of my email window :) I did not want to copy/paste it, as it wouldn't prove me getting it today. This was received in an email form :)
