Looking for IM or Messaging App between Galaxy S6 and Windows 10 base

I can do exactly what I want using Facebook in conjunction with one of other several apps. But I do not want to be on Facebook. Other social apps present similar problems for me.

For everything I found that has both an Android and Windows versions, the windows app simply emulates the phone on the PC.

I am often at a campground with marginal phone reception. Often I can not carry on a conversation without dropout. But I do have access to WiFi and would like to use my phone to message my wife's PC.

Any suggestions appreciated

Welcome to Android Central! How about Hangouts? You can install a good Hangouts extension to the Chrome browser on a Windows machine.

Had tired hangout. Chrome extension worked fine but could not figure out what to do at android end (Galaxy S6). It says can not create a hangout. Probably I am not configuring correctly??

On the Hangouts app, to create a Hangout, tap the big (+) button at the lower right, then New Conversation. You can then pick a contact and start sending messages. If you've never been in a Hangout with the other person, they need to accept the invitation first, after which they will see your messages, and can start responding.

There are several other apps on the Play Store that will do what you want but no first hand knowledge of using them.

MightyText. Been using it for a couple of years on multiple phones. Also, allows you to text from a Tablet and integrates with Gmail and Facebook.
