Looking for texting over WiFi.

My son uses my old Incredible like an iPod touch. I would like to get him an app that he can use to shoot me or my wife texts when he is home alone.

It would have to be over WiFi on his end. What do you fine folks suggest? Yes, I have searched, but I prefer hearing from actual users.

Textfree by Pinger. I don't have texting on my plan. Got a recommendation on the app from a friend. Free texting, just a different number than my normal cell. Work well for my wife and I.

Google Voice should let him have a phone number with voice calling as well as texting.

Google Voice is a great option. I use it on my phone, and my wife uses it on her hacked Nook Color. Also consider Skype.

If you consider using TextFree from Pinger. Just make sure that you use it. If you don't use it for 30 days, they reassign the phone number they give you and you'll have to get another.
