Looking into Pixel XL 2 - Have Questions

I am looking to upgrade my phone in the next couple of months. I currently have an LG V10. Some things about the Pixel XL 2 I have reservations about.

1.) No Micro SD Card Slot .

I take a lot of pictures and have a 64gb sd card that is about 3/4 of the way full I use for music and pictures. Most are pictures. I know they make a Pixel 2XL with 128gb internal memory. Those of you who take a lot of pictures, do you fill that up fast? I have a lot of photo apps as well on my phone. How do you guys get around the no micro sd card slot?

2.) No head phone jack.

I like to hook my phone up to my car ( old 01 Subaru Outback with tape player and cd player) and listen to music that way or spotify. My car does not have Bluetooth capabilities. I would have to get some type of Bluetooth adapter for my car to listen to my music when I want to. Anyway to do this so that there is no sound quality loss? A lot of transmitters have loss of volume. Is there a good one to use?

Thanks Much!
Mel

1) Google has unlimited photo storage:

"Free, unlimited original-quality storage for photos and videos taken with Pixel through the end of 2020, and free, unlimited high-quality storage for photos taken with Pixel afterwards."

I'm assuming you can pay for original quality, but I don't know for sure.

You'll have to do your own utilization and capacity analysis to project how long a given amount of storage will last for you. Keep in mind that not all of that 128GB will be free for media storage and will depend on system overhead and installed apps. The big downside is you can't just pop in a new card for instant storage...you'll have to plan accordingly.

Before I started using Android Auto, I used a Miccus Mini-Jack RX for years with great results. One of the features of that BT receiver that I really liked was the auto-on when power was applied via mini-USB.

I just switched from the V10 to the Pixel 2 XL. I take lots of pictures, but I transfer them to Onedrive immediately, so that 64 gb of storage is fine for me. There is a USB adapter for a headphone jack if you wish.
The camera on the Pixel is truly incredible compared with the V10. Even in manual mode the V10 was not able to get the quality of images I see from the Pixel. Good luck

Saw this online. Would it work? This way I could charge and listen to music at the same time? The only time I would use a headphone jack would be in the car. I never listen to music on it other wise. For that I have a bluetooth Speaker at home but that's only once in a while

That's only compatible with Moto which is different. With Moto the Audio comes from the internal DAC and just passes through the dongle.
For the Pixel the DAC is in the Dongle. There is a third party one in the Google Store but a bit on the pricey side

1)... 64G stores a lot... But with unlimited full quality storage in Photos, I don't really care... I have about 13G worth of pics and vids in there right now and I have 25G left. I'll go in at some point and purge anything that's been backed up. I'd have to be lazy for space to be a problem.

2). Don't forget that it comes with an inline adapter that is actually really good... Plug your car's aux line into that and it'll do just fine. Yes, you need to remember to keep it around, but you can always buy a second to use in the car. With run of the mill buds, I couldn't tell the difference between the 2XL and the V30... But I DID notice the difference compared to phones without a dedicated DAC.

Right. The Google dongle had an onboard DAC and amp and uses the new USB digital audio spec. The phone pushes out a clean, digital signal to the DAC and the amp draws power from the phone over the USB connection. USB-C is significantly more functional than the old microUSB connection...

I am so thrilled that I don't have to have a stupid SD card anymore. Google stores it all for free and I don't have to mess around with downloading my photos anymore. No SD card, not SIM card, pure heaven.

Well I deffinitely want to upgrade to the 2XL. I'll be able to back photos up to my computer as well. Hopefully I can upgrade within month or so. The only thing I'll have to get used to is no battery exchange. Right now I have a V10 with an extra battery and charger. I keep one battery incase of emergencies. With the pixel 2 XL I won't have that luxury any more.

I don't think you'll miss it much. The 2XL's battery life is amazing. I've turned off a bunch of features I don't actively use and I'm consistently getting 5-6 hours of on screen time for 2 days without charging the phone(using up 85-95% of the battery).

Hello!

Google is now featuring, with the Pixel 2 line, unlimited photo storage. I don't know much about it; other than the fact that it's unlimited! But that's great for those who take a lot of photos... Like me, who takes dozens of photos of her cat each week.

Also, I've heard that the dongle associated with the music-listening experience for Google is pretty good. There's a lot of room for subjectivity here, so I recommend going to a store and seeing if you can test out a dongle with a Pixel 2 device. Some audiophiles may love it, some may hate it, and some may think it's just okay, or average. Only you will know if you will enjoy it or not! :)

Please let us know what your decision will be! :)
