looking to root a X for a friend, im a EVO owner..

Hey all,

well my cousin has the X and has complained about the bloatware and wanted me to root it..

i rooted my evo and its nice, 1 click root, then 1 click clockwork recovery,

what i noticed with the X, their arent that many ROMs out for it as their are for the Evo, i mean its not a big deal.

what he is looking for is, ability to delete bloatware, perhaps a safe stock type rom with increased battery life and functionality...

let me know if this is possible...

like i said im a newb to this phone, but not the evo.

Can't really load actual custom roms yet bc of the locked bootloader. If the bloatware is the main thing he wants to get rid of, go to the hacks section at the top. If your good with sdk or terminal (in the market, its free) and adb. You can rename some of the .apk files to. bak and the phone wont reconize them as an app.

wow so motorola locked the bootloader on it??

so in order to delete bloatware, i just gotta root, then mess with terminal?

if you don't want to use the terminal (or something like root explorer) you could load up one of the rom's that have some of the bloatware removed for you. FlyX is supposed to be pretty decent.

we can load roms, but because of the locked bootloader, we can't load custom kernels.

Use this app to buy one click root/unroot app. Then get "root explorer" from the market and just rename the bloatware in your System/apps by adding .bak extension to the apps he doesn't want running, i.e. CityID.apk.bak and it wont load up as an application. Hope it makes sense

Simple question im a rooted noon lol what's the big deal about bloat im assuming this phone has alot of memory so is it just the" annoying" factor. I pay for city id so i kinda like it but i get alot of outta state calls

yea, it's mostly the annoying and principle i'm figuring, the phone has plenty of storage and most of them don't run in the background taking up RAM anyways...
