Loosing wifi while dormant

I have noticed a glitch with my xoom and wonderef if I am alone or not. When my xoom goes dormant for extended periods (aka charging overnight for example) it seems to hang with my wifi. When this happens it still shows connected to my wifi network but can't pull any data. The fix is simple enough, disconnect and reconnect to wifi and it works again. Am I alone with this issue or are others seeing it as well?

Check your settings. Settings > wireless and networks > wifi settings > wifi disconnect policy and make sure it's set to Never.

I too seem to experience this, but I sometimes get stuck at "Awaiting IP Address" or whatever the message is.

I have my disconnect policy set to never.

Mine works OK with the disconnect policy set to "Never". One issue to consider is whether or not your home wireless router is set to a static channel, or if it re-assigns the channel automatically based on nearby interfering networks. If the wireless channel switches, wireless receivers and repeaters can get confused and lock up until the are re-initialized.

Does it happen anywhere else? This kind of thing was happening to my notebook computer a couple of years ago. It was frustrating because there didn't seem to be a cause. Then I noticed it never happened when I was in a hotel room with WiFi. I replaced my wireless router and it never happened again.

Still don't know if it was a hardware issue or a configuration setting, but don't really care anymore. ;-)

I am also having that exact problem on my WiFi Xoom- when it times out and drops the connection and I wake it back up, it will say something like that

Scanning...
Trying to obtain IP address from XXXXX....

and it cycles through those two messages forever. Turning off WiFi and turning it back on does not help. I have to POWER CYCLE the Xoom to get it to connect again. However, if it has been over a day or something, it will connect again without any problem or power cycling.

Although I am sad to see others with the same problem, I am happy that it is not just me. My router is a Linksys WRT-54GL. None of my other devices ever have this behavior. There are plenty of IP addresses for it to grab through DHCP. It looks like it is having a problem trying to get back the same address as it had before (which is standard for DHCP). I didn't notice any settings on the Xoom that might be helpful. Leaving the WiFi "on" all the time is likely to drain the battery pretty quickly.

Anyone else have more info to add? Is this a known problem?

How do you have that network setup on your Xoom? When connecting for the first time there is a setting for DHCP or static, maybe you have it set to static?

Check your router settings. I have ZERO problems with my Xoom at home (WRT-54G or E1000 wireless routers) or at work using WPA2-PSK. Your router may be switching channels on you. My routers and the ones at work are set to a static channel that does not interfere with nearby networks. There are some nice android apps for sniffing wireless networks. I've moved my wireless router away from my neighbor's channels. Drops are pretty rare for me with the Xoom or laptop PCs.

Cheers.

My WRT54GL router is set to a single channel (there is no option/ability in the WRT54GL for it to dynamically change channels) and no other routers within range are on the same channel span as mine (9). I have never had any problems with any of my laptops or phones (or Wii, or people visiting) using this Linksys.... only the Xoom.
