Losing access to files on SD card?

It already happened a couple of times... all of a sudden, the phone will stop seeing some or all of the files (pictures, mp3s, etc.) on my SD card. I go to "Files" app and can't see them there. The applications that use them (Gallery, PowerAmp, etc.) don't see them either. Browsing of the files on SD card becomes very slow as well. I then have to reboot the phone, and everything becomes visible again.

The card is a SanDisk Ultra Class 10 32GB. I tried formatting the card in the phone and moving files onto it from fresh, but today again the same thing happened.

I also scanned the card in my PC, but it did not detect any issues with the card itself.

No idea if it's the card, the OS, or some app that is causing this...

Starting to think it's the card. I've been reading through some of the reviews on Amazon and it seems a sizable number of people had issues with it, especially when used in smartphones. Uhh.. I've always had good luck with SanDisk, so I gave them the benefit of a doubt, but I may have to try to get it exchanged for something else.

FYI, I pulled the card from the phone and used it in my PC (with a USB card reader). When copying large files, this card becomes very hot and then the transfer speeds become very slow. Something is definitely fishy with this card. I'll be returning it for refund.

You didn't say which phone you have because I found that some phones can't handle the latest SD. My cell for example is a RAZR M and it it can't handle anything higher then like a class 6 at most, so if you get a new one see what the specs say just in case.

It's a Razr M, as per my signature.

I'm not sure about this "can't handle anything higher than class 6" thing. I put in a different Class 10 in it, and it's been fine so far. I have sent the SanDisk one back to Amazon.

SD->SDHC->SDXC changes the electrical signaling and the wire protocol.

Class 6 -> Class 10 is just a speed rating. It's possible that the RAZR M bus interface isn't fast enough to fully take advantage of the fastest SD cards out there, but they should still be able to interoperate.

If you insert a Class 10 card and it doesn't work correctly, try running "adb shell dmesg" to see if any errors were logged.
