Losing speaker on video call

Anytime I'm on the phone I use speakerphone or my pixel buds. Everytime I get on a video call I lose my speakerphone and I can barely hear the person on the other end. There's no place to choose speaker or headset in that mode like you can on a regular call.

Is this happening to anyone else?

That's true -- but I meant to boot into Safe Mode and then make a test video call with someone to see if the audio goes away again.

So I tested in safe mode, but all video apps are disabled. So it didn't work. When we restarted we found the problem with the microphone getting worse. It worked on WhatsApp after "reconnecting" showed on the screen. But signal had now sound when I called him with both my S10+ and my iPhone. Duo was also intermittent where sometimes it would work but mostly it wouldn't. Then I called him using the phone and again I couldn't hear him. He called me back and I could hear him. It is like the glitch is getting worse. We are going to back up his phone tomorrow and on Monday I will do a factory reset while he is sleeping during day before work. I am hoping that a factory reset will sort out any glitch in this phone.

Yes. When I'm on a regular phone call while using speakerphone then switching to video call. When the video call connects I can't hear the person, the speakerphone shuts off.
Ahh I just went directly to video call in the dialer , I'll have to check into that then
