Old Android 2.2 ZTE Blade phone. Works ok for calls and texts and general surfing. Somehow the Google Maps and Playstore apps have been deleted.

How do I get them back? There is an app called "Market" but it does nothing.

This is a back up phone which used in emergencies in the car and for navigation if I misplaced by good phone. I do not want to be told to ditch the phone as it works ok for phone activities.

You may not want to ditch the phone, but in a couple weeks it'll be useless for calls and texting anyway. Carriers are shutting down the networks that phone uses as part of the 3G shutdown.

As for the apps - the phone is so outdated the app market is no longer supported and the old maps app won't work as it won't communicate with the Google servers.

I agree with hallux. I'm sure you could find a more recent backup phone for really cheap (especially if used or refurbished).

Android 2.2 was disabled for updates and market place ages ago. It is so old that it is insecure. Even phones on Android 5 or below are being discontinued for support. You we'd something that runs at least Android 6 to have compatible apps. Where in the world are you based? Australia already shut down 3G. The USA is shutting down 3G in a few weeks and even Vodafone in the UK is shutting it's 3G by the end of this year. I can't see you even making calls and texts within the next few months. So we will advise you to replace the phone as it is the only thing left for you to do at this point. As other have said you can get a cheap refurbished phone online. A pixel 3a sells for less than £100/$100 and has Android 12 on it.
