Lost the butter with 4.2.2

Actually it's mostly on Android using Java. Interpreted languages run far slower than, say, C. The JVM (Dalvik) does a lot of checking between each line for "safety" that C doesn't have. That's why the Z10 and iPhone are usually faster.
Could you explain this more so I can understand? Do you mean that using dalvik to run apps makes android inherently slower than however Blackberry 10 OS and iOS do it?

I don't know too much about butter, just that I liked it on my corn but I do have 2 verizon galaxy nexus phones. One has JB 4.1.1 the other 4.2.2 so my comparisons are made not from memory but from very precise side by side comparisons, Here are my observations:
1- 4.1 is every bit as smooth as 4.2.
2- 4.1 reports more signal bars than 4.2, however speedtest reports equal speed average after numerous tests.
3- 4.1 after several quadrant scores is faster than 4.2 by an average of 150 points mostly in 2d/3d rendering.
4- 4.2 seems to suffer from something new called " google services " fever that actually uses more of the battery than the display, not good.

In conclussion 4.2 does have a few very nice features but as I stated long ago nothing that I consider worth getting all excited about.

PS: Both phones are pure bone stock and about equal number of apps and widgets,

I received the update yesterday and immediately had problems. I lost 3G and 4G but still had Wifi. Then I noticed the phone was getting almost too hot to handle with the battery draining down to 25% in less than 2 hours.

I started looking around for problem apps. I have a system app that shows applications and cpu usage and both CPUs where between 85 and 100% constantly even though I had maybe one or two apps running the rest inactive.

This morning I regained 4G signal after powering on but the battery continued to drain so I turned the phone off and connected to the charger again. Then I read another post about overheating and the person mentioned Google Maps consuming the battery. I unplugged the phone from the charger, powered it up and checked the battery usage after 3 minutes. Google Maps had used 25% of the battery even though I wasn't using it - never touched it. I uninstalled maps and turned the phone off. A few hours later I powered up the phone again and found that maps had re-installed a new version on it's own. After this everything went back to normal, CPUs mostly in the 25 to 36% unless something is actually happening, no more excessive heat, battery life good and the smoothness has returned to the phone.

So perhaps try to find out if an app is causing you issues.

I also found out the my system monitor(System Panel - very good app) considers maps as a service so it was never listed as a running app but it is listed as a service which of course, I failed to check in the beginning. Could be that my existing maps was configured for the older system on installed on the phone but not fully optimized for Jelly bean. Just speculation but my system has returned to its smooth performing self.

First and foremost, since 4.2.2, I've gained about 30 minutes of screen time. However, that could be due to the Weather app not working anymore. :/ I also noticed massive lag since the update. I fixed it quite easily though. Re-enable Developer Options. All you have to do is go into Settings thentap the build number 7 times. Then go into Developer Options and just shut it off up at the top. I've been back to butter since, knock on wood...

Glad I'm not the only one with this problem! I'm trying to switch over to Google Now weather but I'd like my old widget back. Let me know if you figure out how to fix it.

Oddly enough I just put Weather back up and its working fine. All I have changed is enabling Developer Options again. Could just be coincidence but I'll take it. :) Got my butter and weather back. :D

I see no lag on mine. But I'm running a fresh install with not 4.1 data. Battery doing good too.

I think the bottom line is people are going to have to do factory resets if they are having problems. I know it is a hassle but it works.

Somehow that worked... but thanks! Strange.

Strangely, this seems to have merit... but I would change the suggestion from re-enable to toggle. Mine was on, I turned it off, and at first glance the lag is much better. Odd.
