So I was looking at my phone the other day and realized that my camera lens outer cover was missing.

There still is a thin piece of plastic that covers the actual camera lens, but the outer lens is gone.
I was like.... great now pictures are going to be ruined.

To my surprise... pictures actually come out much better. Inside pics are not as distorted in low light.

My thoughts are with that outer lens missing... it actually lets more light into the sensor.

Now grant it.. I would not want to get this really wet now... not as much protection.. but...

With the better quality pictures...I think It's going to stay this way.

I take alot of pictures (i have two little kids).

Just thought I would share my findings.

I have a very busy weekend.

If i get time i will try. Will be at a family Christmas party this evening.

I've owned several Evo's and for some reason it seems they each had different results with regards to pictures. Some phones took great pics, others were grainy and some had a blue tint. The Evo I have now takes somewhat blurrier pics than some of the others. I decided to take off the lense to test this theory and sure enough, I got better pics without the lense. My lense wasn't even scratched. I took the pics below in the same lighting and location. The pic that has the black ring is the one without the lense (the black ring IS the lense :) The pics without the lense are definitely sharper. Not sure it's a good idea to leave the lense off but if your lense is scratched they have replacements on Amazon for like $15

Wow, I had my EVO replaced for free at Sprint store because my outer cam lens was cracked. Glad I did. Newer Evo works a lot better.

I have decided to leave off the outer lens. The pictures are soo much better. I took a pic of the christmas tree in the living room with no other lights on.. The night time shots are soon much brighter and clearer.
To me it's worth leaving off.

I was talking to someone who is into photography. Told him about my finding.

He said makes alot of sense. Everyone doesn't realize how much of a difference lenses make.
The better the optics the less noise in the picture.

Maybe that's part of why the i-phone 4s has better pics now. It looms lime it uses glass for the lens.

Yep. That is the results i keep getting it really is a big difference..

Visiting my parents in Florida for the holidays. And my dads evo pics are no where near as good. He is like... how are yours turning out soo good. I showed him. Be was surprised a lens would make that much difference.

took mine off too, crazy difference, i lost my lens thou, so i cant do any before and after pics, but amazing, pictures are way clearer
