Low Space Error

I'm getting this low on space error. I have tried all of the things suggested in other threads - clearing cache on apps (none of my apps have a significant amount of cache to clear) removing apps, moving apps to SD, etc. I have cleared 50MB of stuff; settings>SD & Phone Storage says that I have 481MB of phone memory available, before I had 420MB available. When I sort my apps by size, none of the usual suspects (mail, contact storage, etc.) come up as being huge.

What should I do to fix this issue? I can't access my text messages and I assume that I am unable to receive any as well at this point due to "low space."

Are you using the stock messaging app or an after-market, like Handcent? If you aren't using it, try Handcent. There may be a storage limitation you are running into for the stock app, and it may not be a factor for handcent (or equivalent). I've got somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 SMS/MMS messages in Handcent with no problems.

Is that really a lot (or is that sarcasm?)? I haven't deleted any (other than spam) since I got the phone in June, and I've only ever used Handcent.

I downloaded Handcent - is there something I need to do to disable the stock messaging app? Won't it just fill up again?

FYI I had about 1500 texts (sent + rec'd) in there.

You'll want to disable all notifications, storage limits, etc for the stock app. So, in settings in that app, uncheck "delete old messages," uncheck "delivery reports," set the max message size, and turn off all notifications (except for voicemail notifications, if you want those). Also clear all data and cache for the stock app in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All (app is just called "messages").

Going forward, Handcent and the stock app will both have access to your messages. But I'm just spit-balling that this will solve the problem based on your problem as described and my experience with Handcent. It's worth a shot, and handcent is far superior as a messaging app anyway.

Its a lot for me but I was joking around with you. I'm OCD with my email inbox and messages have to keep both clean.

I have this exact same issue about once a week. It doesn't really have any impact on my phone, there is no lag, I can still open apps, still install, etc. It's just the annoying icon that stays up there in the status bar. When I go to check my memory I always seem to have about 300MB of RAM left, 95% of my internal storage available, and a least a few gigs left on my SD card. So I have no idea what it's talking about. My solution, just reboot my phone. The message is gone and I won't see it again for about another week.

At first I thought this possibly indicated a memory leak on one of my apps, but seeing as I never come close to 100% memory usage, I've no clue what is causing this.

3000 stored? Wow... Do you get any slowdown in the app? I was under the impression that if you kept too much, the app slows a bit...

I have to delete my texts regularly though... All my friends are sociopaths and if anyone looked through my texts without me deleting... They would be bombarded by obscure "porn joke" pics and various explicit nonsense...

So, needless to say, I've never been able to store enough messages to see if it slows down...

BTW: I always got the "Low Space" notification and couldn't clear it... I cleared the data and cache of my Facebook and Facebook for Sense apps and I haven't seen the notice in about 2 weeks now... Plus, I've added a few large apps since then wioth no notice...

I've had this problem a few times. I actually contacted HTC about it, and they said that it's because some app is over its data limit and making the phone all wonky. The stock e-mail app is a common culprit. Also, if you use dolphin, delete the data and move the cache to the SD card. Common culprits for me are the New York Times app, and the various comic strip reader apps I have on my phone. Usually after a few tries (mostly with apps whose data isn't important), the message goes away.

Really not that big a deal, although if you don't know how to fix it, it can really screw with your phone.

I have nearly all my storage space still available, but it still gives me this dumb error. I am using the gmail app. and it tells me I need to reduce the cache size but there's nothing in the cache! Plus this info is never stored on the phone anyway! My gmail will not work on the Droid now. I have moved everything possible to the SD card, dumped the Facebook data and frozen the programs, plus done the *228 roaming and programming update. No effect. Any other ideas?

Ok this has happened to me twice now, first time I cleared the HTC-Mail app, and then via Titanium Backup (root only) I froze it.

I just got the LOS message again and now I cleared and froze the HTC-Message app (and all widgets)

Message went away.

So far so good. I will post if the message pops up again.

In the meanwhile, if you are not Rooted, use "History Eraser" app

Also, get rid of any and all Task Managers. That's my Android pet peeve.

I get this error constantly. It certainly has something to do with bug on the phone, because I've got tons of free memory space.

This most recent occasion, I've had it for about 2 consecutive days, and it's really annoying me. It prevents apps like Gmail and Peep from updating and providing notifications. There is nothing left on my phone to delete, at this point. (At least, apps I can live without/caches I don't need, etc.)

Is there ANYTHING that can be done about this? Does it happen on ALL Dincs? If not, I wonder if I could manage a replacement from HTC?
