My cellphone provider started to use LTE around my city (i live in D.R.) and i get 40 MBPS on downloads and 10 on uploads.. thats very fine... but when i make or receive a call the signal drops to 3G.. i know that LTE is only available for DATA but when i finish my call, my Nexus 5 (D820) takes too long to get back to LTE and stays like 20-25 mins (or even more) on HSPA+ or HSDPA.. i have to Dial the #*#.. numbers in order to get LTE again .. my question is.. .. is this normal??

Thank you

To have you tried the toggle airplane mode trick? That should get you to re-establish LTE. It's a workaround that should work, rather than having to wait for it to reconnect.

I have somewhat the same problem on the Verizon network with my new Galaxy Note 4. It will drop from 4G to 3G and the only way to get 4G back is to restart the device. Toggling the airplane mode does not work. This trick used to work on my Galaxy S4.

This is not normal, my nexus 5 will connect back to LTE within a minute after a call. Check with another device and if it's the same scenario it's a provider issue.

Yes that annoys me so much. I would not mind if it stayed on HSPA if trying to stream 128k music it did not keep buffering all the time. On LTE which is weaker it does not buffer at all.

So when it stays on the crappy HSPA network I load local content until it goes back to LTE which it will do after a few minutes or so.

Try refreshing APN settings. Go manual setting to auto or something like that.
