I dont know how long it'll be on..or if they're just testing..but i flipped off my wifi this afternoon and im getting a 4g signal..and just to test, i ran speedtest.net

I got 16 mpbs down. 5 times faster than my house internet.

Its really quite incredible, if you're from the area, enjoy it while its on!

They announced expansion to the south side a while ago. Hope they switch on milwaukee soon its suppose to be on next month

how's the LTE connection speed? Is it slow like wimax in turning the radio on and connecting to a signal?

Northwest Indiana was upgraded some time ago since it was a very small amount of towers to upgrade. They have kept it very quiet about it being active.

Chicago land area is still ongoing and isn't expected to be fully finished until fall... Seems like the far west and south suburbs have LTE going in many spots.. Example I know out in Yorkville (about an hour south of Chicago) they were active a few weeks back.

Here's a few links to check...

wait, does it just go to lte automatically? I thought they were gonna roll out an update right before the launch LTE. where are the settings for lte?

You have to turn it on in the phone then the phone reboots

Your phone should have the APN settings in it automatically. If not go to settings, go to mobile networks, go to access point names, make sure it is set to "ATT PTA" if you don't have that one message me and I can walk you thru it.

eh?!

I thought it was

settings>more settings>mobile networks>network mode>LTE/CDMA
*reboot
did i miss something?

*edit* ... while we are at it....whoever can answer this i'd appreciate it

....if i leave the phone on LTE/CDMA but keep mobile data off until i need it...will it prevent the phone from wasting battery looking for 4G?

My bad I thought you were talking about SIII for AT&T. I was told you could just turn the 4g on and off for Verizon

this blows......Seattle the most wired city in America is still stuck in 3G land as Sprint never rolled out Wi-Max here..........

They are testing it in highland, parts of merrillville and Hammond. Before I returned my EVO LTE for a GS3 I drove through highland and got download speed of 29mbps.

So it's really going to be everywhere like the 4g sooner than later!

How's the speeds where there's no lte? Are these areas the same speeds on 3G as they are on GS2?
