M8 has more wasted space than M7?

on M7 there are two buttons on each side of the HTC log, but on the M8 those buttons are above the HTC logo. To me it looks like they wasted space on the M8?

Planning to buy HTC One M7 or HTC One Mini 2 (or Nexus 5).

I love the M8, and I upgraded from an M7. I can attest that comparing the two, side by side, that the screen on the M8 is still the slightest bit bigger if you cover up the on screen buttons and only compare usable space to hale space. Besides, that's why they have "immersive mode" now. It hides on-screen buttons while watching a movie, browser, YouTube and almost all the games I have are supported.

Either you like to phone or don't....

Lots of other choices out there....

Personally, the M8 is the best phone it have owned....

After using the S5 and the G3.... I have returned to the M8.

But I'm more interested for the reason why they did this since the old way would offer more space on the screen and looks better imo.

Rooted running LMT PIE with nav bar disabled. Screen real estate=beast. I know a lot of people don't like pie but I've been using it for over one year and I love it. Extra space makes a difference.

Coming from the M7, I was actually hesitant about upgrading to the M8 because of the on-screen buttons but after upgrading I've never looked back. The on-screen buttons are actually more effective and easier to use than the touch ones which seem to lag a lot of times.

Something to understand with electronics is there's no such thing as waisted space. A look at any circuit board will show you that. I can also say from slight experience in a college drafting class that laying out electronic parts is extremely hard due to space limitations.

That said, sometimes compromises have to be made for the overall functionality of the device. It's been reported that that space is where the radios are located. When you consider the phone is aluminum, that makes sense so it has a way to pass the signal outside the body. Whatever the case, I can assure you there's a reason for that design, even if you don't like it.

Besides, it's not like the buttons are taking up half the screen. I don't see the reason for the uproar I've been seeing for losing what amounts to a couple lines of text when reading something. In that context, it just sounds silly. On a personal level, I think having everything moved down to that space would interfere with one handed use. It's already a bit of a stretch with my thumb to reach the buttons where they are now.
