I come from a Z1 and, honestly, go for the HTC.
Sony's software is horrendous, every update they release has more bugs than the previous one.
Just to give you a heads up, people are having to take the phone to repair centers to have it downgraded from 4.4.2 to 4.3 because it's unusable with 4.4.2. The ringtone sounds in the earpiece instead of the external speaker, the phone overheats and shuts itself after using the camera for a while, the battery life was greatly reduced and the UI became laggy.
The camera, even being 20.7Mpx and all, is very very bad. Its software is so badly made, that the pictures are grainy and blurry, my iPhone 5S from the company I work for blows away the Xperia Z1 (my new One M8 also does).
Sony takes forever to release the updates too, you will wait and wait only to find out that is filled with bugs, very disappointing.
Save yourself the trouble and get the HTC.
