m8 vs m7 screen size

I have read a couple times that the m8 screen size is actually smaller than the m7 due to the on screen buttons. Can anyone straighten this out?

In some apps the buttons go away, like YouTube. On some screens/apps they stay on confirming those allegations.

Root the phone and get this https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...etails?id=com.gmd.hidesoftkeys&token=pmdun6aw and you'll always have a full 5 inches of screen.

No, the M8 screen is still a bit larger even with the on screen buttons showing. Side by side it appears smaller because it is slightly shorter than the M7 screen but it is also a bit wider.
The M7 is a true 4.7" while the M8 with on screen buttons showing is about 4.75".

The answer is no. I have both phones and the m8's screen and screen real estate are larger. It's very noticable and enjoyable in my opinion.
