M8 (vzw) in root / twrp limbo?

so i just got a m8 for vzw off local craigslist...turns our the phone has twrp installed but not root access. what is the best way for me to go back to complete stock. i cant factory data reset because it takes me to twrp custom recovery, there is no nandroid, and bacially i need a working phone here (yes it works but i want stock) its currently running 4.4.2

My guess you are on a stock rom beings you dont have root. If you have a custom rom it say in settings/about phone. You can flash a stock recovery with fastboot

^^^definitely this! You should always flash the *latest* recovery for your device before doing anything!
