Cannot connect to my HTC Desire C. HTC screen reads (Bluetooth) "Paired but not connected"... helpful- NOT!

'Discoverable' ticked
Bluetooth activated on Mac
'Send File' from Mac-> "waiting for response from HTC"
Also, connecting using the HTC cable supplied- no device shows on Mac??
What else must I do???
