The tools option, with Magic Eraser, isn't showing on my phone and there's no option to update the app. Anyone else run into this?
Yea, I know how you're supposed to do it - that's the point, it's not there when I go to edit.Once you take a picture go look at it in Google photos and click edit.
Did you not get this update when you setup the phone? Camera had a huge update when I first set up
Yup - got the update, updated photos, cleared cache and data... no tools, no magic eraser.
Yup - not there. That's odd, I have Tools in my Photos app. Did you try restarting the phone?
Yup - not there.
Very weird.
Did that. The new portrait options and motion options show up, the tools folder and magic eraser never show up. I'm super confused.FWIW, in Google Photos on my Pixel 5 -- which may not be as advanced as the P6 -- the "Tools" option appears among the editing features for certain photos, but not others. And when "Tools" does appear, the specific functions that are available can differ depending on the content of the photo; for example, I may get "Sky" or "Blur" or "Portrait Light" or "Color Focus" or various combinations of such "tools." You might try opening the edit options on a few different photos to see if yours operates in the same manner.
Update - ok I figured it out.
When transferring from my old phone it copied the 4 XL settings in the photo app.
Uninstalling from the app drawer and reinstalling didn't do anything, for whatever reason. But some reddit searches found the solution.
If you hit uninstall in the play store, instead of uninstalling an option to update actually shows up. Update and go and now the magic eraser and tools menu shows up.
