mail app -2 badge on lockscreen?

Anyone know how to fix this issue when the stock mail app has a -2 badge on the lockscreen. If i get a new mail it will change to -1.
Its a little irritating..

I've seen this happen when you delete the same message multiple times before it is moved to the trash folder. Deleting the account then syncing up again should solve it.
