Mainly iPhone user thinking about buying Note 8

Longtime iPhone user with the occasional foray into android. Always seem to end up back with the iPhone for various reasons, but last year I bought the Note 7 and LOVED it. Samsung pay was my favorite feature. Was not missing iOS as much as I thought I would but the recall ended the affair and I went back to my beloved iPhone. Now, I'm in a position to be able to get the Note 8 at a substantial discount (I have a paid off iPhone 6s I can turn in for the discount) and I'm tempted to give the Note series another go.
I am not likely to get the iPhone 8 because of the alleged price tag so if I upgrade an iPhone at all it'll likely be the 7s plus if not the Note.

I would expect with this being an Android forum the overwhelming consensus would be to get the Note over the iPhone but what I really want to know is do you think I could recoup my money ($560ish) on the Note 8 if I get it and hate it for some unforeseen reason?

First few months resale at that price or better should be pretty easy as long as you take good care of it.

Very similar situation - I'm almost everything Apple & have been since 2007. I currently have an iPhone 6S Plus (as well as iPad Pro & Macbook Air). I just missed the boat when the Note 7 came out & already then knew that when the next Note comes out, I'd switch over. At this stage of the game, it's no longer which one (iOS or Android) is better, it's which one is better for you. There's enough 3rd party integration where I'm not really missing out on anything (plus the fact I still have 2 devices on the platform) - I feel very comfortable making the leap.

I've done my homework on the Note Series & absolutely feel it offers as much, and in some cases more, than the iPhone does (for me).

Good luck though with whichever way you decide.

I'm in the same boat. The only thing that I missed was the group messaging of iMessage since all my friends have iphones. There were a few hiccups with that but the beauty of the 7 was enough to make up for it. I Pre-ordered with the 7 exchange deal and picked up a cheap SE to use as the return device so if I don't love the Note I'll go back to my 6S, and if I love it I'll sell the 6S.

I made the switch last year from iPhone to the Note 7. I had used iPhones since 2011 and the note 7 was my first Android phone. Like the OP i loved the note 7 and really liked the extra freedom that android allowed.

I was able to keep the note 7 until the end of January of this year, after a short time with my old iPhone 5S i bought the S8+, i really like the S8+ (not as much as the Note 7) and i had decided to just stay with that, then Samsung came out with the incentive for the note 7 folks....

Long story short i now have a Note 8 on pre-order and i am turning in an old S5 (bought it on the cheap) for the discount.

I have yet to miss iPhone or IOS at all

Since the Apple event is on 9/12, Hopefully the note 8 hasn't ship yet (thru Samsung) because I then would have time to decide whether to go for the note 8 or new iPhone. I have a feeling that Samsung might want to ship their phone earlier to get everyone locked down haha.

I used to have the first Samsung Galaxy S with T-Mobile, then switched it to the iPhone, and adapted their ecosystem, I switched back to the S3 then iphone then Note 5, then iPhone (because of the apple watch), then switched to Note 7 (Recall), and now back to the iPhone 7+. I am locked into the Apple ecosystem since i have the iPad, macbook, iPhone, it just makes things easier when it sync and everything just works out of the box. I pre-ordered thru samsung to jump on the note 7 owner deal... but having second thoughts if I should just stay with the iPhone since it less hassel when syncing all my devices together. I do enjoy the Note series, I LOVE the multi-window/multi-tasking, since I commute a hour to and from work, which I can just watch youtube and do something else at the same time. If the next iPhone & iOS 11 doesn't impress me, I'm going stick with the Note 8.

I think you would be safe. If you find you can't live the Note Lifestyle and your Note 8 is in good condition you would likely have no trouble selling it for a fair price. If it's unlocked even better. Only you can decide what works or doesn't.

Cheers,
BR

Couldn't have said it any better: Only you can decide what works or doesn't.

One of the reasons I love being in the Microsoft ecosystem is the ability to be device agnostic since they have done a great job of supporting android and iOS. Once I link my outlook account to either device all my contacts and calendar sync. Same with OneDrive for photos and docs, and groove for music. I know you can get the dance thing through Google but my preference is Microsoft.

If it were me, I would wait a bit and decide nothing now. The iPhone 8 will be revealed 9/12 and available shortly after. High price or not, you may want to see what cool new things it brings, it's possible it might be worth it to you as a long time iPhone user. (This is not something I would normally ever say, since IMO iPhone releases have been largely iterative year over year. But this time, it seems there will be actual significant change to the iPhone for the first time in a long time IMO).

Also, the Note 8 reviews will be out in short order and in the hands of normal folks shortly too. If it were me I'd get some feedback from reviews and forums on things like battery life and functionality (on both the iPhone and the Note 8).

Good luck with your decision.
