Verizon Galaxy S8 Maintenance Reset

Hello,

My mom has a s8+ that (according to her) the screen went black and when it turned back on it said “maintenance reset” and her phone is like a brand new phone now. She’s lost everything. Has anyone experienced this? If so, is there a way to get her pictures and messages back? Thanks in advance.

Using stock charger or something else?
Had a S7 in a thick rubberized case the first week, while a phone is indexing and doing a lot of optimization. It over headed. Black screen and green text on restart showing verbose mode

More info so you can cut down the question & guessing to figure out why.

She says it was just in her hand and it went black and restarted. I wasn't with her so I'm not sure what happened before hand. And if I believe so, she only has the stock USB-C charger with her.
