Major Battery Problem

My battery does not hit zero for it to die. It will sometimes die at 35% sometimes at 65%! Anyone else having this problem?

I'm having the same issue with my HTC M7. It doesn't do it all of the time just here and there and sometimes a couple of days in a row. For me I think my battery has had it, because when I charge it it'll start off at zero like it truly died and then jump up to close to the % it was when it cut off. To understand what is happening you have to look at how ion batteries work. Ion batteries create their charge by moving ions from neg to pos and die when the ions build up on the positive side and they can no longer move. This doesn't mean that there is no charge left the ions can simply not move and starve what they are feeding. This can be caused by heat build up, age, the number of cycles on the battery, and of course the quality of the cells. Once the unit starts to degrade there really isn't much you can do beyond replacing the battery. The article below talks a bit more about how these batteries work and also offers some advice for keeping them running.

Prolong battery life

When you say your phone 'dies' at these points, what exactly do you mean? Is it just powering off despite showing a usable charge, but usable again after powering on (and if so, does the battery gauge show the same level as when it had powered off)? Or, is the battery actually fully depleted requiring it to be plugged in (and if so, is the amount of use on the phone the same regardless of life shown, or are you getting close to twice the use out of the phone by the time it reaches 35% and dies vs when it reaches 65% and dies)?

For example, I had my phone plugged in until 9 am this morning. And it suddenly shut down on me an hour ago. The only reason I think this is more a software problem is because when I plug it in to recharge, the battery indicator doesn't show empty, it shows the battery already half full or three quarters full and filling up (I.e. when the battery truly dies and you plug it in, a battery animation displays it filling up. Mine appeared almost fully filled). That's why I think it is a software issue

When it happens to me it usually won't turn back on and when first plugged in it shows 0, and then a very short time later it'll show higher readings. Not long enough for it to have actually charged that much. As for software even if the indicator was reading incorrectly the phone doesn't care what an indicator says it only cares the current it's receiving. So unless you're thinking that your battery is actually dead and it's showing higher percentages I don't see how it's a software problem. Plus you yourself said the device hadn't been off the charger very long before it died.

Can you simply power it back on, and if so, does it quickly turn it self off again due to insufficient charge or is it able to run for a while (do you have to put it on the charger to regain any utility)? I'm trying to clarify in my mind whether the phone's battery is actually drained and simply failing to accurately report charge status, or whether it's simply powering itself off inappropriately.

It won't turn back on, as if the battery is dead... If it does turn back on it reads very low or 0 and then turns off as though it has no charge. But if plugged in it will show that very low level that you might see if it would turn back on and a very short time later it will show a level closer to the level that was indicated when it turned off. Not sure how else to say it...

VidJunky - definitely a software issue on yours. If this is a recent thing for you, consider disabling or temporarily uninstalling any apps that are new to or updated on your device as of about when it started happening. You could also try doing a factory reset to see if that resolves it. Are you at getting your normal amount of use of the phone before it dies? If so, while not much consolation, at least you can have a sort of mental gauge of where you are based on use.

Well I did a factory reset so I will report back here... Hopefully with good news!

Well I thought that the factory reset would work but it just shut down on me again. Now I have to call up Motorola and have them ship me a new one (which means putting a $500 hold on my credit card... yay me [why can't they just take moto credit]) so that I can swap data and everything. F***!
