I just got my GS3 about 2 days ago and ive only been like 6 hour battery life... i took it off the charger about 1 hour and 20 minutes ago and its down to 75... I thought this phone gave like 10 plus :/ & Also i cant seem to find the grammar button.... i hate the predictive text but auto apostrophes dont appear or anything like that "/

Sorry, im just a noob.

Did you fully charge the battery before using it?

I'd try COMPLETELY discharging the battery, and then COMPLETELY recharging, and see if that helps.

I go 15 hours or so with my GSIII under moderate usage and I'm typically still at about 40% when I plug it into my charger at night, so something is wrong with yours for sure.

If discharge/recharge doesn't do it, you may have a bad battery or even bad phone. Get a replacement.

I don't know how this phone does it but somehow your phone learns about you and how you operate. Before you know it you will be getting that 10+ hr use. Give it a week. Don't forget to remove apps. Don't let them run in the background when not using them. Lots of people don't like svoice. If you turn n that off it will get rid of a slight lag when you press the home button and will also give you better battery life. Turn off any of the dumb motions that don't work on this phone off. The only motion I use is the screen capture. To show off. Most idiots and Isheep think that all androids can't even capture do is fun showing off with that feature. Connect to WiFi as often as possible. Turn GPS, Bluetooth, and auto sync off when not needed. Keep the brightness as low as possible.

Good luck :p

I have no idea what is causing battery life like that. So far in the week I've had my phone I run WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth ON all day. I wouldn't consider myself a HEAVY user but I'm averaging in the neighborhood of 30 hours of battery life from a charge. Yesterday when I put in on the charger it had been about 17.5 hours of time. Of this, 2-2.5 hours was stricly screen on time when I was playing Angry Birds and Drag Racing. On the way home I played an hour long podcast that had been downloaded over 3G during the day. I sent a handful of emails and texts earlier in the day and checked twitter maybe a dozen times.

I do not have power saving turned on and I dont kill any tasks. I let the phone do its thing and I haven't disabled anything. I let my stuff sync up auto and my weather updates whenever I unlock the phone.

This is better than my GS2 but I was still able to go through a similar day with that. I would recommend spending some time with an app like GSam Battery Monitor to see if the phone is being held awake and the number of wakelocks throughout the day. Using this I realized my old GS2 that my wife is now using stayed wakelocked all day with Tweetcaster Pro. Unistall, reinstall, and boom problem solved.

If nothing is the culprit, it could be a bad piece of hardware/battery. It happens and it certainly isn't fun.

OP, if you are new, check to see if you got the LG8 on your software version. If you did, you are screwed.

My battery went from 30 hours on a charge to 8-12.

Go to the official Sprint forums. I am dudetype16.

I started a thread. At first, I was told it was all in my head, and the update did nothing wrong.

In the last week, a lot of people have logged in to discuss how their battery life has been AWFUL since the update.

Sprint and Samsung screwed something up bad.

50-60% of my battery is killed by cell standby now.

The screen life is great.

I hope this gets fixed, it sucks.

Hmmm, my battery had no noticeable changes after the upgrade to LG8. Seems to still work great. I guess I am lucky.

okay, update. My battery still sucks.

My friend at work has the S3 on AT&T, she is a moderate user. She gets 36 hours per charge.

She always lets the phone discharge until the battery counter is red. She then charges it to full, then uses it until the battery counter is red.

I charge mine at around 20%. I did this before LG8, and I also got 30 hours per charge. Now, I am lucky to get 17, and that is with limiting background processes to 4, and power saving mode, and a dark screen.

The cell standby continues to make a mockery of my battery life.

I am thinking I am headed to Big Red or AT&T after this contract is up.

I, too, have experienced no bad side effects on my battery performance after installing LG8. But some users do, from anecdotal reports like these.

I don't know the root cause. But I have seen some others with this issue report that clearing the cache memory fixed the problem for them.

A big reason for battery drain is simply how good or bad the signal strength is.
And here's how I came up with that.
I'm a mailman, and also a union official.
Normally, I'm on the road, in areas where the signal strength is decent, and I can get a full day (until 7pm) out of it.
If I stay in my office during the day from time to time, the reception is awful. I won't get texts, and it'll take a miracle for calls to come in or go out. I'm in a big building, encased in a concrete/kryptonite mixture.
It's like a prison.
My battery will go from 90% to 20% in 6 hours, and that's with me not using it at all.
It happens every, and I mean EVERY time.
There's also certain areas in town that are in 1 giant dead spot. I just go to airplane mode until I'm out of it, or else, the battery drains hardcore.

At work, I get horrible battery life, at home it's great. I know that.

That is the issue. The LG8 update changed the modem software. The LG8 modem is the poopy pants.

On LG2, with the identical usage, I got brilliant battery life. LG8, same usage, craptastic battery life.

what i did that helped me out a lot with that battery issue was, clear the cache. How you do that? well you have to shut your phone off. Then hold the POWER button, VOLUME UP button, and the BACK button at the same time. hold it the screen will flash once then let go, you should see a little android appear with blue insides. then use the volume button to go up and down then select clear cache then hit the power button it will do so. After that is done reboot the phone and BOOM your life will improve. mine will last me about a day and a half with a good amount of use.
