Major Lag Issue with Zenfone 2 Laser (ZE551KL)

Considering the specs on the phone, it should have no problem running games and apps that ran just fine on my old Samsung Galaxy S4. However, playing an EXTREMELY simply programmed game like Domination causes it to lag and become choppy. Also, using Google Chrome and then receiving a message on Facebook Messenger causes lag. Sometimes Facebook Messenger by itself lags, when I'm not using any other app. Any tips to help fix this issue?

Edit:
Upon factory resetting, the phone continued to stutter when the default keyboard pulled up for me to enter my Google Account information.

Hello! Welcome to Android Central! You could try a couple of things. Try rebooting your device if you already haven't. You can go into settings>>applications and find these apps and clear the data for each one. You can also try uninstalling one at a time and see if one of these apps is causing the hangups (my money is on FB messenger). You can boot into recovery mode and clear the cache partition for your phone. If none of this helps, your best bet is to try a factory reset. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. I ended up factory resetting right off the bat since the phone is a few days old anyways. It did fix the issue significantly, however there are still some areas where the phone stutters. It may seem nitpicky, but when entering the PIN I can feel a significant pocket of lag, as well as sometimes when flipping through the app drawer. These things rarely ever happened on the S4, so I'm curious as to why a phone would stutter on such simple things, and how it could be fixed. Also, games like Deer Hunter which should run no problem on the device suffer from big lag spikes and low framerates. Everyone who owns this phone says that it's very fluid and has little to no lag. It seems like mine is the only one with issues like this.

When you read about SD615 you will understand the reason why 8 (Octa) cores doesn't mean faster performance than 4 (Quad) cores. I don't have any game installed on mine and I still see lagging when opening 4 apps a the same time or switching between them. I ended up two day ago returning mine since upper left touch screen corner start getting numb and not responsive. I was screwed up after noticing that newegg has only replacement policy for this phone..

And just FYI my nexus 4 (3 years old) perform faster than this one. Didn't do my homework well :-\

Hey Dan, your top left corner issue could be caused by the Facebook Messenger. There are several reports about this same problem. If you have this app installed disable it temporarily and see if the problem persists.

And about the general lag. Do you have any memory booster, app killer or cleaner installed in your phone? In some phones they come preinstalled. If so, disable them and see if you see any performance improvement.
